Enhance your curb appeal with red color-enhanced mulch. Not only does mulch help control weeds and retain soil moisture, but it also provides a clean, polished look that elevates any landscape design. We produce color-enhanced mulch using slabwood, logs, sawmill scrap, and recycled wood from pallets. We color on-site using environmentally friendly, glycerin-based dye, generally considered non-toxic for pets and plants. Breaks down naturally over 2–3 years. Designed to retain color for one full season.

The Ultimate Guide to Color-Enhanced Mulch
Our colored mulch is made from a variety of wood fibers dyed with iron oxide or carbon-based pigments. It is environmentally friendly, and designed to provide a vibrant boost to any landscaping project.
Preventing “Spring Wash” (Critical Installation Info)
“Spring wash” occurs when mulch colorant washes away due to high moisture levels before it has fully dried. To ensure your mulch stays vibrant, follow these essential steps:
- The Drying Window:Mulch requires a critical drying period of 24 to 72 hours to bond to the wood fiber.
- Check the Forecast: Only install mulch when there is no rain in the forecast for at least 48 hours.
- Turn Off Sprinklers: Ensure all irrigation systems are off during the 24–72 hour curing period.
- Temperature Check: Colorant will not “set” if the temperature is too cold. Avoid installation during near-freezing conditions.
Protecting Your Surfaces
Mulch may be damp upon delivery. To prevent staining on driveways or sidewalks:
- Place a tarp underneath the mulch pile.
- Always ensure mulch slopes away from building foundations for proper runoff.
Is it Safe for My Family and Pets?
- Non-Toxic: Our colorants use iron oxide and carbon-based pigments. They are safe for people, pets, and the environment.
- Plant Safe: Our mulch is safe for most plants. However, if you have extremely sensitive species, we recommend consulting a gardening professional.
- Pet Warning: While the dye is safe, keep pets from eating the mulch, as ingesting wood fibers can cause digestive issues for dogs.
Maintenance & Longevity
Color-enhanced mulch is designed to maintain its brilliance for a full season (Spring through Fall).
- Rejuvenate: Every 4–6 months, rake the mulch. This aerates plant roots and brings fresh color to the surface.
- Annual Top-Off: You don’t need to replace all your mulch every year. Simply rake the existing bed and add a fresh 1–2” layer to restore the vibrant look.
- Cleaning Stains: If color bleeds onto concrete, use soap, water, and a stiff broom while the surface is still wet. For stubborn spots, we recommend using Simple Green® or a similar biodegradable cleaner.
